December just got a lot more wonderful with "Wonder Woman 1984"!

It has been such a roller coaster ride for Wonder Woman fans this year, as "Wonder Woman 1984" keeps getting postponed. Originally slotted for release in the summer (a.k.a. just June for us Asians), fans were almost giving up hope on catching the movie in cinemas this year – or in cinemas at all – until finally yesterday we receive the good news that it will in fact be released in cinemas and it will still be in 2020.

Since December is the month of Christmas and gift-giving for most, here we list down the reasons why "Wonder Woman 1984" should be a Christmas gift to yourself and/or your friends and loved ones. (Regardless of whether you celebrate Christmas or not).

The reasons are:
1. Gal Gadot
2. Gal Gadot
3. Gal Gadot
4. Gal Gadot
5. Gal Gadot

Just kidding! Sure, Gal Gadot is a great gal, but let's check out the real reasons below.

Kick-ass female superhero

We've waited more than 3 years for the return of Wonder Woman on the big screen. The female warrior first charmed us all with her power, beauty and grace in her 2017 eponymous solo vehicle. If ever she is needed to bring some strength and inspiration to everyone, 2020 is the time. With everyone feeling down from the yet-to-end pandemic, a kick-ass empowering figure is exactly what we all need right now.

It's a DC offering (sorry Marvel fans)

For the first time since 2010, a year is passing by without a single Marvel Cinematic Universe (MCU) release. If it weren't for the pandemic, which has caused cinemas worldwide to temporarily shutter and re-shutter over the months, forcing studios to keep rearranging their release schedules, we would've had two MCU titles this year – "Black Widow" and "Eternals". This has led to a rare phenomenon where there are more DC Extended Universe (DCEU) than MCU releases in a single year. That's not a bad thing, though. As movie fans, we do need the balance, so we can pour our love fairly for both universes. (We're all friends here, MCU and DCEU fans, right?) After sort of welcoming 2020 with Margot Robbie's "Birds of Prey" in February, now we'll be closing the year with "Wonder Woman 1984"!

The superhero blockbuster to save 2020?

We need a blockbuster movie for 2020. That's not to say we haven't had any major releases this year. We've been delightfully befuddled by Christopher Nolan's "Tenet", we've questioned our honour with Disney's live-action "Mulan", and we've cackled along with Harley Quinn's colourful 'Birds of Prey", but we have yet to have a blockbuster starring a proper superpowered hero. Enter Wonder Woman, saving the world both onscreen and in real life this December. She can't lasso the coronavirus into oblivion, but at least she can offer escapism for those of us looking for something that can make us forget the bleakness of this pandemic-ridden year.

Action-packed superhero flick (with great one-liners!)

Judging by the images and snippets of "Wonder Woman 1984" floating online, it promises to be a very good superhero movie with lots of action and great one-liners. Just the sight of her Golden Eagle armour is enough of a hint on how much more action this second movie will offer compared to the first one, which wasn't so shabby itself in the action department. Director Patty Jenkins even confidently stated before that the movie "has plenty of action to be proud of."

Gal Gadot

Have we mentioned Gal Gadot? (Sounds familiar, right?) We mentioned above there are snippets of the movie that can be found online, by that we mean the trailers. Of course, a constant in these trailers are the star herself, Gal Gadot (with co-star Chris Pine here and there). The 35-year-old Israeli actress reprises the titular superhero role, which she debuted as in 2017's "Wonder Woman", only this time she'll be facing Maxwell Lord and Cheetah on the battlefield. So click play on the video below and get yourself hyped up all over again while we wait for the movie to drop this December!
