23 Sep – A new version of the classic gangster film, "Scarface", starring Al Pacino, will be brought to the big screen once again by Universal Studios according to a report on MovieWeb's website.

The new version, is being touted as "neither a remake nor a sequel", but instead will borrow the common elements of the earlier films, 1932's "Scarface" starring Paul Muni and the 1980's film of the same name with Pacino.

Both of the film centers on a violent outsider intent on pursuing his own twisted take on the American dream that infiltrates a criminal operation with ruthless determination and swiftly becomes its kingpin.

Universal is currently pursuing writers for its new version, which is at an early stage of development and has the 1983 "Scarface's" Martin Bregman on board as producer.

In other related news, Pacino is currently working on a gangster drama titled "Gotti: In The Shadow Of My Father" that will also star Kelly Preston, John Travolta and Lindsay Lohan.
