Is "Scarface" getting another remake?

Date Posted: 12 August 2016

Al Pacino starred as Tony Montana in the 1983 "Scarface".

12 Aug – What is Hollywood without its sequels, reboots and remakes? "Scarface" is getting a remake and this time it may be helmed by the man who brought us movies like "Southpaw", "Training Day" and "The Equalizer" – Antoine Fuqua.

Fuqua is in negotiation with Universal Pictures to direct the upcoming remake, Deadline reported, which is said to utilise the same storyline of an immigrant's rags-to-riches tale but will be set in modern day Los Angeles.

This will be the third version of "Scarface" made by the studio, with the first one being the 1932 movie directed by Howard Hawks and Richard Rosson and starring Paul Muni, followed by the 1983 remake directed by Brian De Palma and starring Al Pacino.

Words of a new remake have been circling since five years ago but it was only recently that it picked up wind again with the news that Fuqua may be saying hello to this not-so-little project.

The question on everyone's mind now is: Who's going to be the next Tony Montana?

1983's Montana, portrayed by Pacino, is the villainous protagonist that has now become one of the most famous movie characters of all time.

In the meantime, Fuqua reunites with star Denzel Washington for "The Magnificent Seven". The western action movie, also starring Chris Pratt, Ethan Hawke, Peter Sarsgaard, Haley Bennett, Vincent D'Onofrio, and Lee Byung-Hun, opens in cinemas 22 September 2016.
