Based on director John Patrick Shanley's own play, which won him the 2005 Pulitzer Prize for Drama, "Doubt" is perhaps one of the best and most wonderful drama-filled movies in recent times. Both the script and the acting deserve no less than superlative comments that help turn this movie into some sort of modern masterpiece.

Already boasting a strong cast that helped to get four out of its five Oscar nods, "Doubt" is a selection of difficult themes like religion, power and morality.

One thing for sure is that, there is hardly any doubt that Meryl Streep can really take a film a step forward. Last seen jumping up and down on a bed in "Mamma Mia!", she plays a rather strict principal in "Doubt", who goes on and on about discipline. Similarly, Philip Seymour Hoffman definitely nails it in delivering Father Flynn, who pretty much projects with just his facial expressions and eye contact. As for Amy Adams, she is just the right person to play the role of Sister James, a confused young nun who only wants to do what is right.

"Doubt" is a very much like a game of chess. It involves a lot of thinking, and while non-action packed, there are moments that will require the readjusting of seats. You will also be constantly reminded that each character has their past and how they handle them. You get invited to judge - and that's where the fun is.

Well, for those who prefer happily-ever-afters, you will most likely feel a little frustrated, as "Doubt" will live up to its name and you are likely to leave the hall with questions aplenty, all swirling in your mind, providing never-ending debate for those who care to discuss. It's the kind of film that provides excellent character study and whom you believe is really up to you.
