The Good, the Bad and the Ancient Evil:
• Just like what Disney has done with the Marvel Universe or what Warner Bros has with their DC Universe, Universal Pictures attempts to create its own universe too by reviving all of its classic monster movies from the '30s and '40s, but sadly they're off to a terrible start.
• Hoping to create an interconnecting universe of classic monsters won't work if you haven't thought things through properly, and that's exactly what's going on with "The Mummy" which doesn't exactly bode well for what's to come and is merely a meagre attempt at cashing in on a potential franchise.
• It is one massive mess of a movie driven entirely by special effects and cheap scares that end up being unintentionally funny to progress the story, and it made the Brendan Fraser versions of the franchise seem like classics.
• Casting Tom Cruise as the lead role is also a huge case of miscast because it seems that he has been playing the same kind of character for more than 30 years now and he's not bringing us anything new in this movie, except maybe for his super toned body, but that's not the point.
• The most watchable part of this movie is probably having Sofia Boutella in the title role, learning her ancient Egyptian backstory and her attempts to reclaim her destiny.
Trivia:
• The movie the first instalment of a Universal Monsters shared universe known as "The Dark Universe".
